NYC, Day 30… Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson birthday party in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, was a spectacular way to spend a Sunday afternoon. All of MJ’s classics were on blast ((big up DJ Spinna on the wheels of steel) and even Snoop D-O-double-G passed through to extend his birthday greetings. Gooooooooood times. NYC, Day 27…Went to the Shades of Blu event at the distinctively quirky Union Hall in Park Slope Brooklyn. The venue was quite fly, along with the indie artists on the bill, which included Peter Hadar, Dynasty Electric, McKenzie Eddy and Sean O’Connell. Live-O!

NYC, Day 25 (II)…Before the Collage Party, I passed through an event at Lucky Strike Lanes on 660 W 42nd Street. It was free bowling, food and drinks all in celebration of producer + singer-songwriter Sean Garrett’s new mixtape, The Inkwell (which sounded hot too!) I wasn’t complaining :-) ,

NYC, Day 19…I heard a rumour that Prince was going to be at tonight’s show at BB Kings, and lo and behold, the dude and his entourage were sat mere metres away from me and my friends’ table. Only in New York folks! Legends aside, this is probably the best show I’ve been to since landing here. R&B singer Dwele did a storming set and Lalah Hathaway (daughter of the late Donnie) was absolutely STUNNING. I never knew her cover of Luther Vandross’s Forever, For Always, For Love was so amazing. Wowzers.

NYC, Day 10…went to a lil’ music industry shindig at Stay on 244 E Houston Street; newcomer Nate Walka (he wrote Jamie Foxx’s Blame It On The Alcohol) was showcasing his forthcoming album - I loved the tunes and the venue’s kinda cute!
